What's it Like?
Away fans are
in the Arthur Wait Stand, where just over 2,000 fans are accommodated. Initially
1,000 tickets were allocated and are on general sale. The remainder go on sale,
should demand dictate. Fans are advised to buy tickets in advance to save time
at the turnstiles. Ticket prices: £25, Concessions (Under-16's and Over 60's):
£15, Family Ticket (2 Adults & 2 Under-16's): £52, Senior Concession Family
Ticket (2 Over 60's and 2 Under-16's): £32. Disabled supporters, whose carer
will be admitted for free, should contact the Box Office at Crystal Palace
and ask nicely for Mrs. Pam Groves, the club's disabled liaison co-ordinator on
020 8768 6080.
If you are sat
towards the back of the stand you’ll have old wooden seats with little leg room.
The views is not brilliant, because to the overhang of the roof plus a few
supporting pillars. One small refreshment area to cater for the whole away
support sells burgers and chips. An idea is to get food before entering the
stadium.

Directions, Parking &
Train
Leave the M25 at Junction 7 joining the M23 to Croydon, which becomes the A23.
After Croydon, the A23 bears left at Thornton Heath. At ‘The Horseshoe’ pub
roundabout (CR7 6AW) go straight over, into Brigstock Road (B266), passing
Thornton Heath Station on your left and bear right onto the High Street. At the
next mini roundabout, go LEFT into Whitehorse Lane. The
ground is on your right. There’s plenty of street parking. Traffic on Saturdays
can be pretty bad even without football traffic, so allow extra time for the
trip.
By Train: The nearest stations
are Selhurst or Thornton Heath, served by London
Victoria
main line station, Clapham Junction, London
Bridge (every half hour) and East Croydon (every 15 minutes). You can use Norwood
Junction station which is also served by
Victoria, but is further away and a 10-15 minute walk.
Note:
Crystal
Palace station is nowhere
near the ground. If coming from outside
London, it’s an idea to buy a 'Travelcard' at the first
tube station you get to, or you can add this to your train ticket. Specify you
want a 'Travelcard' that covers you to Selhurst or Thornton Heath. The card
allows unlimited travel on the tube and trains within the
London
travel zone

What the Eagles Fans Think
Neil
says “The best thing about Palace, is its never dull supporting Palace, we
rarely get 2 seasons the same. The worst thing is The Club always seems to shoot
itself in the foot when on the brink of some success. My match prediction is
1-1, and I think we’ll finish in 8th“.
Uncle F. says “The
best thing about Palace is we are totally unpredictable and never out of the
news. The worst thing about Palace is that whenever we get a good team together
it only lasts for a heartbeat”. A similar prediction of 1-1 and he reckons
squeezing into the play-offs in 6th. He wishes Swans fans a good day when we
play. Keith feels “The best thing
about palace is its heart and vulnerability”. He says there is no worst thing as
he loves his club. On the day, he thinks Palace will think nick it by the odd
goal. He’s hoping for the play-offs again, but being realistic, a certain top 10
finish. Sean Robb says “The best
things about Palace is it's never predictable a good old Palace Roller Coaster;
the Youth System, Simon Jordan and
Neil Warnock. The worse things about Palace are we shoot ourselves in the foot,
and/or concede in the last minute (or miss vital penalties). Oh yeah and
Selhurst, we have no options to expand so things will never change in terms of
club growth. Prediction for the Swans game is 2-0 if we get a striker, if we
don't, 0-0. Where we finish at the end of the season is hugely down to whether
or not we bring in a strike force, and start playing Fonte at the back. If
either of these two don’t happen then were sit middle of the table doing nothing
special. However if we do sort things, then playoffs are easily attainable.
BreadBoy says “The best thing about
Palace is the history and the memories. The worse thing is the price of the
food! My prediction is we’ll win 2-1 and we’ll finish
the season in 5th - same as last season.”
Maxipalace says “The best thing is
our youth academy, the worst thing is not owning our ground, Prediction depends
if Watson is playing and we have a goal scorer in the team, otherwise you will
probably do us. Finish in the table - anywhere, depends on the above”.
WestCroydonEagle says “The best
thing is the high expectations. The worst is when a player is bought for high-ish
prices, and then either doesn’t play or not used to their full ability.
Prediction is a 3-2 win (Moses x2, Carle) I think Palace will finish 7th at the
end of the season”.
Pubs and Grub
The ‘Clifton Arms’ (SE25 6NJ) is the nearest pub to the
ground. Away fans will only get in if they turn up early. After 1:30 it's Palace
season ticket holders only past the doorman. Opposite Thornton Heath Railway
Station is ‘The Flora Sandes’ (CR7 7JG), a Wetherspoons pub. It’s popular with
home and away fans and a 15 minute walk to the ground. As you come out of the
pub turn RIGHT and follow the crowds. There are plenty of kebab & chip shops on
route to the ground. Nearby is ‘The Railway Telegraph’ (CR7 7JJ) - from the
station cross the road and turn RIGHT, walk for 100 yards. ‘Two Brewers’ on
Gloucester Road
(CR0 2DW) is near Selhurst Railway Station. Recommended pubs near Norwood
Junction Railway Station are ‘The Alliance’ (SE25 6EA), near the clock tower. A
few doors down is a Wetherspoons, ‘The William Stanley’ (SE 25 6EP), close by is
‘The Ship’ (SE25 6EF) Not too far away is ‘The Portmanor’ (SE25 4UF) on Portland
Road - from the station turn RIGHT at Clock Tower into High Street. At
crossroads turn RIGHT downhill under railway bridge Alcohol is served inside the
ground.
