Video clipsListers' view - Andy Bowen A better if not brilliant performance from what was effectively half our reserve side, Roger, Smith, Howard, Romo and Savarese being the exceptions but with no Cusack we lost nothing in effort, tackling, tracking back but gained something in creative terms from our midfield. Particularly pleasing to see Jenkins' effort in the last few minutes chasing down the ball but it is time for Capatin Cusack to be dropped on a more permanent basis. Goodbye you are the weakest link. I was again convinced that if we can get the ball up to Savarese he will score goals given the service. On the other hand calls from the Guestbook from some for Boyd's inclusion on a longer trem basis were again misplaced. The Blacka Pearla is clearly not up to the job and Watkin if it was true that he was dropped must be a tad disappointed. First half overall we had a couple of long range early efforts as did Bournemouth but neither side really created anything and it was obvious how much Bournemouth relied on the absent Defoe and the impact a loan signing can make...take note Mr H. First half was fairly even, Roger having to make only one particularly impressive one handed save. O'Leary slotted well alongside Captain Smith, the pair of them coping admirably with the beanpole Fletcher and the more mobile other forward who did so little his name escapes me. Again, if its true that Bound was dropped for daring to question Mr H then he would of cause rightly be disappointed himself but on this occasion he was not particularly missed. De Vulgt and Howard were steady coping for the most part with whatever was thrown at them but their distribution was less than average, De Vulgt making several hashes of balls up the line in the dying minutes and Howard making one particularly woeful cross in the first half when something a little more accurate and we were in on goal. This brought an understandable blast from Roger. Second half they again took most of the possession and chances as you'd expect from the home side but we had a couple of near misses when the ball didn't quite drop for us in the box before Savarese virtually elbowed Stuart Roberts of the ball before firing in from 8 yards or so on an accute angle into the far corner. As Cilla Black would say Surprise Surprise We had scored. Moments later a cross cum shot from the always lively Roberts grazed the far post angle with the crossbar. For the next 30 mins or so, we seemed to sit back and allow Bournemouth the run of the play failing on many occasions to hold the ball up in their half. Watkin replaced the ineffective Boyd and his effort and general link play certainly added more than Boyd had done. Whilst they had a good number of efforts on goal, Roger was well behind every shot and there were few scares apart from a worrying sveral minutes long break in action when Roger appeared to be about to off injured, Jason Jones warming up with Glen Letheran virtually in the centre circle, and when a miscued Captain Smith clearance cannoned off the bar and back into play. We held out relatively easily following about 7 or 8 mins of added time. The players were enthusiastically appluaded from the field by the hardy 35 souls who ventured to Dean Court, and yes I did count them. Name checking those I knew 4 from MAGS, Mark Evans as always and the lovely Helen and Mum deserve congratulations for the long cold trip. At least we were spared Johnny Hollins patronising enthusiastic applauding for the travelling support at the end. He prefered to rightly congratulate the players for a hard earnt rather than spectacular result. In fact Hollins only appeared on the touchline almost on the final whistle, he was not in his normal pose outside the dugout and I suspected , hoped, that he had avoided the delights of the LDV Trophy, Cup or whatever it is called nowadays for a scouting mission in search of those quality reinforcements which despite the result against an apparently much depleted Bournemouth side are still so obviously needed. |
