    Swans held at home

Swansea's hopes of building on their six-goal romp against Brentford in midweek were dashed after only three minutes of their final Second Division match of the season against Cambridge United.

Cambridge, only guaranteed Second Division survival on Wednesday, went in front through David Kitson, who got at the near post to head home a Christian Hanson corner.

The Swans failed to create much in the way of goal scoring chances but a fine break by Nicolas Fabiano in the 33rd minute set up a chance for Jonathan Coates that goalkeeper Shaun Marshall tipped over the bar.

Marshall damaged an ankle as he fell and was taken off on a stretcher to be replaced by Lionel Perez and moments before half-time Perez was picking the ball out of the net.

Lee Jenkins made good progress down the right and his cross was superbly nodded home by Frenchman Matthias Verschave.

Cambridge were reduced to 10 men after 54 minutes when Tom Cowan was taken off with a head injury after manager John Beck had already used all his three substitutes.

Nick Cusack went close with a 20-yard drive that Perez went full length to keep out and Stuart Roberts also tested the goalkeeper with a first-time shot after Giovanni Savarese had flicked the ball into his path.

But the Swans suffered a blow on the 67th minute when central defender Matthew Bound was rightly sent off for a dangerously high tackle on Cambridge mid-fielder Tero Pilvi.

A back header by Kitson was comfortably dealt with by Roger Freestone, but the goalkeeper was fortunate that Marcus Richardson could not reach a cross from the left by Pilvi a couple of minutes later.

Andy Duncan headed wide from a Hanson corner as Cambridge continued to search for the winner, but Swansea broke deep in injury time for Roberts to set up a ball that Verschave could not quite reach.
