The Famous Five

Over 6,600 people, the highest figure this season turned out on another wet night to see this basement battle that we really needed to win to put some space between us and the bottom 2 clubs.

The Swans paraded the same starting line up as on Saturday, with Watkin on the bench in place of Stiens.

Cutler
O'Leary – Smith – Tate – Hylton
Martinez – Britton – Mumford
Richards – Williams – Nugent
Subs: Watkin – Howard – Jenkins – Thomas – Phillips

Poor conditions made for a difficult game, but it was clear that the referee was making no allowance for this fact, and was over zealous throughout.

A poor missed header by Williams in the early stages gave a stark warning of the performance to come from him, as he showed little or no skill or fight during this game. Watkin or Thomas must be a better option in the starting line up now, as we cannot afford the luxury of this type of player in our predicament.

The defence looked solid enough tonight, and where the Boston attack were able to penetrate, Cutler demonstrated his quality with some fine saves.

Hylton had a far more settled game than against Wrexham, and really tonight the only disappointment in defence was O'Leary, who was eventually replaced by Lee Jenkins deep into the 2nd half.

Tate was supremely confident and composed, and continues to shine as our star defender with his consistent performances.

In midfield, Martinez again played out his role as play maker, and he looks in complete command at all times. Without him we would have far more problems, and we have become reliant very quickly on his ability to read and control the game. Britton had a quieter game than of late, although he still put in some telling runs.

Mumford was not impressive, and the return of Johnrose is almost reaching desperation point, as our performances have not been as fluent and threatening since he has been injured.

Our lack of fire power is reaching critical point, as despite our rock solid defence, unless we score we will fail, and we need to be beating teams such as Boston with some room to spare.

The referee must have had more than one pencil with him tonight, and he seemed intent on wearing both of them down. The 2 dismissals seemed a little harsh, and had they been against Swans players, he would have needed an escort to leave the field.

Of the 12 attempts on goal that the Swans had, only 3 were in the first half. We seem to be destined not to score at the moment, even when our opportunities and attempts are hitting high numbers.

A difficult trip to Torquay on Saturday takes on greater importance after us dropping 4 home points in the space of 4 days. We are making life difficult, and all the while, Flynn's words that this will go to the wire echo around the Vetch and the living rooms of those who know the reality all too well.

Cutler 8 - Very confident in all he did. Saved our bacon on more than one occasion.

O'Leary 5 - Not his best performance. Went off limping.
Tate 8- Continues to look the class act of our defence.
Smith 7 - Distribution not his best tonight.
Hylton 8 - Vastly improved from Saturday. Let's hope he continues to improve.

Martinez 8 - Seems to orchestrate every thing that goes on. We'd look lost without him.
Mumford 6 - Nothing like the threat he should be. All too often hits the ball forward in hope.
Britton 7 - A few good runs, but not his best game.
Williams 4- Goes from sublime to ridiculous. Tonight just ridiculous.

Richards 4 - Must have forgotten to put his contact lenses in. Two great chances and failed to hit target.
Nugent 5 - Huff and puff and very little else.

Subs Jenkins 4 - Poor control, took wrong option too often.
Thomas 4 - Looked out of touch and out of position.
Watkin - Not on long enough to judge.

Ref 3 - Made no allowance for conditions and both players sent off could consider themselves unlucky.
