Brian Flynn made 2 changes to the starting line up from Cheltenham with Stuart Jones slotting into the defence allowing Lenny Johnrose back into the more familiar left side of midfield in place of Jonathon Coates. Kevin Nugent replaced James Thomas upfront.

Very much a case of Great Expectations again with a crowd of 9,041 greeting the team like champions.

Boston looked much the same outfit as last year when they managed a 0-0 draw at the Vetch despite having midfielder Tom Bennett sent off early in that game. Whereas last week at Cheltenham we were up against a giant strike force, tonight their midfield was packed with 6 footers who, from the off, seemed determined to muscle Swansea out of the game.

Swansea settled quickly into the game with Maylett in particular causing the Boston defence problems. However, Swans had difficulties gaining control of the game and although having the bulk of the early possession, meaningful shots on goal were at a premium.

On 30 minutes we feared the worst, when what looked a rather innocuous challenge left Martinez holding his knee. From his reaction and that of Richard Evans and the club doctor, the injury looked nasty and we can but hope it looked worse than it will turn out to be.

Lenny Johnrose moved to central midfield with Andy Robinson joining Leon Britton in the pocket behind Nugent and Trundle.

By half time 3 of Boston's midfield had been booked with one lucky to stay on the field after a diabolical challenge on Leon Britton.

Despite having had the better of the half we failed to create too many chances.

However, all that was to change within the first 6 minutes of the restart. Firstly Trundle picked the ball up outside the box and just when you are thinking he should welly it, he delicately lobs the ball over the diminutive Bastock in the Boston goal. Just as we are settling down again, Nugent scores the second from close range.

From there on in Swansea dominated the game with just a few scares and a bit of a charmed life at times. It became time for party pieces with Trundle outshining everybody in this department. Leon was running the midfield and had 3 or 4 opportunities to score his first goal for us. Swans finally rapped things up 4 minutes from time when a superb hold up and lay off by Trundle gave sub Andy Robinson a relatively easy chance which he took easily.

At the end Trundle once more took the plaudits and was last to leave the field. If he gets a hat trick at home I swear they'll have to drag him off.

Brian Murphy 7 – A few awkward moments, but great to see his first clean sheet.
  • Lee Jenkins 7 – Quiet game, didn't get forward as much as usual, but defended well.
  • Stuart Jones 8 – Excellent game. Good in the air and on the ground.
  • Kris O'Leary 7 – Caught out a couple of times, but good distribution.
  • Leon Hylton 8 – Seems to be getting better and better each game.
  • Leon Britton 8 – Lively. Energetic. Outstanding. Neat. LEON!
  • Roberto Martinez 7 – Boston seemed determined to kick him out of the game, and succeeded.
  • Lenny Johnrose 9 – Made a big difference to the midfield. Outstanding throughout.
  • Brad Maylett 8 – When he runs at people he looks brilliant, but did mishit a few crosses.
  • Kevin Nugent 8 – A superb foil for the outrageous Trundle.
  • Lee Trundle 9 – What can you say. They will be times when we are tearing our hair out with Trundle, but for now he should have the freedom of the City.
  • Robinson 8 – Great to see him get his first goal. Always lively and willing.
  • Durkan – Not on long enough to comment.

Trundle scored his fifth goal in three games

Swansea City's impressive start to the season continued on Friday when they beat Boston United 3-0 at the Vetch.

The Welsh side, which narrowly survived relegation last term sit proudly at the top of Division Three thanks to goals by Lee Trundle, Kevin Nugent and Andy Robinson.

Boston tried their best to nullify the Swans with crunching tackles, but they could do little to stop Trundle's opener on 49 minutes.

Graham Potter's defensive header fell short and Trundle struck from 25 yards, curling the ball round post and keeper.

Scorer turned provider two minutes later, feeding a pinpoint cross to Nugent, who doubled the lead.

The visitors had their chances and Neil Redfearn and Stuart Douglas hit the home woodwork.

But the points were wrapped up on 87 minutes when Robinson deftly chipped over Paul Bastock for his first ever league goal.

The victory, played out in front of an impressive crowd of 9,041, sent Swansea to the top of Division Three for the first time since they claimed the title in 2000.
