Dai and Paul SmithAbout a 1000 Swans fans made the trip to the English Riviera (or should that read `River`). The weather was not very kind and both heavy rain and high winds had been forecast the afternoon - we not to be disappointed.![]() Swans appeared with Connolly, Britton and Maylett all in the starting line up with Nugent being reduced to the bench after being troubled with a toe injury this week.
Swans started the game quite brightly with the wind and rain at their backs. As the first half progressed it looked like the Swans were the more likely to make the breakthrough. The Torquay keeper, Van Heusden produced a brilliant save to deny Richard Duffy early on, although in fairness there we precious few clear-cut chances. ![]() The home side effectively defended a succession of 4 or 5 corners but neither keeper was really tested before the interval. The second half saw a significant worsening of the elements and for the most part it was real backs to the wall stuff for the Swans. Freestones kickouts were failing to make 30 or 40 yards before being blown back towards him. Just one clear cut chance for each side is memorable. James Thomas had a goal bound effort cleared off the line and in the dying seconds of the game Alan Tate saved the day with a marvellous goal-line (or was it just behind) clearance. ![]() All in all, a well deserved point was earned against a useful organised Torquay side. I sure the lads would be able to draw some confidence from this performance for Sundays visit of Yeovil. Player Ratings
