Caernarfon 0 Swansea City 5

Caernarfon 0-5 Swansea

The FAW Premier Cup Newsletter - January 26th 2005.

After the shock of last night in North Wales, there was no repeat as Swansea City comfortably overcame an injury hit Caernarfon Town, who struggled manfully, with no lack of effort.
The home team fielded their only 11 fit players and couldn't name any substitutes. With Swansea taking a totally professional approach, an early goal in the first minute from Chad Bond, meant it would be a long night for the home team.

With neat passing football, the visitors dominated proceedings in the first half, and two further goals meant there was no way back for the home team, despite the encouragement of a sizeable crowd on a cold night.
Two more goals early in the second half saw Swansea to a comfortable victory, and as they "took their foot off", the home team at least troubled Murphy with a couple of shots. Full marks to Caernarfon who never stopped chasing and trying, but class really did tell.

At the Recreation Ground, there was a repeat of last Sunday's League encounter as Rhyl were the visitors. Just like on Sunday, the opening was very tense, with much midfield "huff and puff", but little penalty area action.
The visitors slowly got on top and it was no surprise when they took the lead, although it was from the unlikely source of a John Leah own goal. That was how it stayed till half time, but quite what was in the home team's tea, they should patent!
The second half was quite different as the home team really took the game to the visitors, and the pressure told with goals from Steve Evans and Jamie Wood to take them into the semi-finals.

Rhyl threatened in the last quarter, but without really creating any chances and they can have few complaints about the result in a game that was a credit to the Welsh Premier League.

Swansea City avoided a repeat of last season's embarrassing FAW Premier Cup defeat to a Welsh Premier side by outclassing Caernarfon at the Oval.

The League Two side needed just 40 seconds to open their account when Chad Bond stunned the home side.

Mark Hobson headed into his own net and Mark Pritchard added a third to put the result beyond doubt before half-time.

Ijah Anderson struck five minutes after the break and Pritchard hit a second to send Swansea into the semi-finals.
