Stockport County 2 Swansea City 0 - Match Report and Pics Dai Smith

Swansea City crashed out of the FA Cup to Second Division strugglers Stockport. A long trip to Edgeley Park for the Swans faithful was rewarded with a disappointing display. Passing in the first half was shocking.

Jackett kept largely the same side that played against Chesterfield, the only change being that of Connor replacing Bayo after he had picked up an injury.

A following of around 500 Swans fans in a crowd of 2,978 had little to cheer this afternoon. Stockport had the better of the early exchanges and the greater determination after their previous week thumping from Carlisle.

Although a good run and shot from Tate produced a smart save from their keeper and also Britton should have done better with only the keeper to beat, and skewed his shot wide.

Although it was Stockport who took the lead just before half time. A howler from normally dependable Kevin Austin saw him try to take a touch too many in his own penalty area. He was easily dispossessed, and Stockport's Easter slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net with only Willy to beat.

Swans could have gone in all square when nice skill from Paul Connor saw him neatly make room for a shot from 7 or 8 yards out and was denied by Stockport's young keeper with a good save.

The Swans appeared early from their half time break and were made to wait a few minutes for Stockport to emerge. But after a bright start to the half, Stockport's Hamshaw scored from a tight angle to make it two nil.

A succession of injuries??, substitutions and time wasting tactics ensured that the Swans gained little second half momentum. The Swans also used three second half substitutes to try and inject some urgency into the game - Akinfenwa for Connor - Robinson for Martinez and Forbes for McLeod but to little avail.

From a Swans perspective the second half produced a little huff and puff, a few second half corners, another tackle from McCleod that could well have earned him a red card instead of a yellow and a shot from Robinson that fizzed over the bar.

That's it for the FA Cup for this year then, lets hope we can raise our game for the important fixture against Southend next week.

The match report would not be complete without mentioning the poor performance of the referee, Mr A R Hall. A bigger homer I have not seen for a number of years. During the first half, I only thought the guy had one arm…..... until the second half when he showed us quite a lot of the other one! His mistakes were too numerous to mention but suffice to say that there was no possibility of any flowing football with the peel of the referees whistle in the air and the allowing of blatant time wasting tactics from Stockport for the whole of the second half.
