Scunthorpe 2 Swansea 2 - Match report by Paul Smith

The Swans travelling fans numbered about 250 to 300 for this 7:30 kick-off at Glanford Park

The Swans lined up:-

Gueret
Amankwaah Monk Iriekpen Williams
Robinson Pratley Tate McLeod
Knight Fallon

Subs: Oakes Austin Trundle Butler Akinfenwa

On 15 minutes referee harshly showed a straight red card to Alan Tate for a challenge on Cleveland Taylor (who was falling over all game) with his studs showing. The Swans 10 men regrouped with Andy Robinson and Kevin McLeod playing narrower but still showing ambition by leaving two men up-front.

Just when it appeared thing couldn't get worse, Garry Monk appeared to pick up a serious leg injury, being stretchered off with his leg in a splint. Monk was replaced by Kevin Austin.

Swansea gave at least as good as they got despite being one man down and had the best chance to take the lead on the half hour mark. A good cross in from the left by Kevin McLeod found Rory Fallon at the back post. He sent his header back across towards the goal -  , however it was cleared off the line by a Scunthorpe defender.

Swansea however took the lead soon afterwards, Tom Williams nicked the ball and played a long ball from defence and found Leon Knight. Knight picked out a run from Andy Robinson who drilled the ball home from 20 yards out on the left hand side, beating the keeper at the near post.

Half Time: Scunthorpe 0 Swansea 1

The only changes in the Swans 10 men was Trundle who replaced Knight.

Swansea had the worst possible start to the second half. After 2 minutes, Williams got the wrong side of Scunthorpe's Cleveland Taylor and made a rash challenge conceding a penalty. The penalty was coverted by Andy Crosby, sending Gueret the wrong way.

Scunthorpe then piled on the pressure gaining a series of corners.

Half way through the half, following a long ball from defence which should have been dealt with easily - Austin got caught in possession on the edge of the area, whilst trying to see the ball out of play, Billy Sharpe took the gift, took the ball in to the area and finished well.

With 10 minutes to go, a well worked move down the left hand side produced a great cross from Williams. This found Rory Fallon's head who delivered an unstoppable header into the back of the net. Swansea saw out the remainder of the game to gain a valuable point.
