Hartlepool United 1 v 1 Swansea CityTuesday October 15th, 1996Swansea completed the task set in two consecutive away matches by gaining their second point in 3 days. A bad tempered match saw Molby sent off from the touchline and a further 7 players booked - 4 from Swansea. Swansea fully deserved the draw after falling behind in the 29th minute. A vastly improved 2nd half display saw them threaten to take all three points after Steve Torpey equalised on 57 minutes. Hartlepool scored from a Swansea corner! A dreadful left wing cross fell to midfielder Chris Beech who took the play to the other end with some neat inter-passes with Stephen Halliday who cut inside from the right and scored with a low left foot shot. Three minutes later, Chapple was left writhing in agony near the halfway line as the referee waved play on. When play was eventually stopped, Molby went onto the field from the dug-out to remonstrate with the ref. The referee escorted Molby to the touchline, and ordered him to sit in the stand for the rest of the game. Chapple was stretchered off to hospital where he was later released. Man-of-the-match Steve Jones, produced the tackle of the game on 44 minutes that stopped Halliday adding a second for Hartlepool. Steve Torpey's equaliser was a brilliant header when he rose above everybody else to head Ryan Casey's left wing cross down into the bottom corner. Dave Penney thought that he had won the game for Swansea when his 20 yard shot looked certain to find the top right hand corner but keeper Pears launched himself to fingertip the drive just around the post. Team: Freestone, Chapple, Lacey, Walker, Edwards, Jones, Clode, Penney, Torpey, Coates, Casey. Subs: O'Leary (for Chapple 33), Brown (for Coates 76), Heggs.
