Hull City 1 v 1 Swansea City

Saturday 11th January, 1997.

Despite taking the game to Hull and dominating for long periods, Swansea had to come from behind to salvage a point with Linton Brown's 87th minute goal cancelling out Mann's in the 83rd.

Molby recalled the rested Lee Jenkins in place of suspended Penney and selected himself in place of Kwame Ampadu.

Swansea made all the running in the first half hour and by this time had forced NINE corners. Thomas saw Hull keeper Davison dive full length to turn his 20 yard shot around the post. From the corner, Davison again was in action turning Edwards' looping header over the bar for another corner.

Further chances fell to Torpey, Thomas and Brown but the Hull defence held firm.

Hull started to get into the game as half-time approached and, acting captain, Walker was forced into errors on more than one occasion. Moreira was booked for holding back Darby (a regular defensive tactic of his :-)) on the edge of the box.

Half time: 0-0

Swansea again started brightly and Thomas was unlucky with a low shot that skidded just past the far post. The game became more even and it looked like either side could snatch a goal.

Moreira raised Swansea hopes with with one of his 60 yard meandering runs and ended with Coates driving high and wide of the Hull goal.

Hull then forced 3 successive corners before Torpey headed straight at the keeper from a well delivered cross. Thomas then got himself booked for dissent while disputing the award of a free kick. Hull starting to look more and more threatening, made a double substitution bringing Peacock and Mann on for Trevitt and Gilbert.

Mann had only been on the pitch for 4 minutes when he put Hull ahead in the 83rd minute. Swansea had failed to clear a Hull attack and Joyce's cross found Mann who turned the ball past Freestone.

Swansea turned on the pressure in search of a deserved equaliser and from a corner, keeper Davison dropped the ball into the path of Brown who scored against his former club.
