The Rams restored some Derby Pride with a convincing performance against Third Division Swansea City on Wednesday night.

It was a solid all-round display featuring goals on 25, 65 and 75 minutes from Esteban Fuertes, substitute Dean Sturridge and Vass Borbokis. A late penalty for the Swans was greeted with roars of approval from the 500-plus Welsh crowd who'd been consistently vocal in their support for a side who battled well but struggled to keep possession and were frustrated by the class of their Premiership opponents.

The Rams - looking to make amends following a disastrous 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Sunderland on Saturday - started sharply. Rory Delap, playing up alongside Fuertes, found Baiano just outside the box on two minutes. His shot was over the top of Roger Freestone's crossbar. That was the story of the night for the little Italian: he looked spritely, found himself in good positions but just couldn't find the finishing touch.

Swansea created chances early on, Smith's header into the box in the third minute finding Roberts who couldn't finish under pressure from keeper Russell Hoult. Moments later it was Roberts who found Thomas 30 yards out in a central position. His speculative shot was way over Hoult's crossbar. On 12 minutes, Fuertes found Borbokis - looking dangerous on the right wing - but his cross into the box was high... too high for Baiano, whose glancing header was, again, over. Baiano was involved again seconds later, this time it was Delap's ball from the left which found Baiano who, under pressure, dummied the defenders by hopping over the ball in the box. It sailed across the face of the area towards Borbokis who fed it back in to Baiano. His tame grass-cutter landed in the arms of Freestone. The Rams were creating good opportunites but conspiring to miss the goal - Baiano could have had a hat-trick and Delap should have been on target during a period of sustained pressure.

It was left to Fuertes to open the scoring on 25 minutes. Bohinen threaded the ball through to Baiano on the inside right channel - he found Delap in the box, he touched it past Freestone for Fuertes to score his second as a Rams player. Swansea created their own chances towards the end of the first half, Price forcing Hoult into a low dive to the right following good build-up work and Julian Alsop heading over under pressure from Hoult following a free kick on the half-hour.

Tommy Mutton replaced Tony Bird for Swansea on 48 minutes as they battled for the equaliser with Rams defender Jacob Laursen following two minutes later - he was stretchered off the pitch with a badly twisted ankle, to be replaced by Dean Sturridge. Delap moved back into defence. Darryl Powell, wearing the captain's armband for this match, found Borbokis storming up the right wing on 61 minutes, his curling power-drive from outside the box looked to be heading into the top left-hand corner of Freestone's net but flew high and wide.

Richard Appleby replaced Stuart Roberts on 64 minutes and seconds later Dean Sturridge weighed in with his second of the season. Derby broke on the counter attack with a long ball out of defence from Prior. He found Fuertes who flew up the left inside channel and, under pressure just inside Freestone's box, found Sturridge arriving on the right. He fired into the bottom left hand corner of Freestone's goal to make it 2-0 after 65 minutes.

Seth Johnson replaced Darryl Powell on 74 minutes - the skipper left the field to a standing ovation after handing his armband to Prior. Gareth Phillips replaced Martin Thomas for the Swans seconds later just before Vass Borbokis sealed victory for the Rams. Sturridge, on the edge of the area, played the ball to Baiano, whose first time chip into the area found Borbokis. He hammered home past Freestone's right hand into the top left-hand corner. It was a stunning goal - his first for the Rams - and no more than he deserved after some inspired work down the right wing.

Esteban Fuertes was off, to be replaced by Kevin Harper on 76, and five minutes later substitute Mutton forced a good smothering save from Hoult. The youngster rode the challenge of Prior to find himself with only the keeper to beat. Hoult - rarely troubled for most of the night - was alive to the danger and slid in to clear with his feet. That sent the Rams on another counter attack and, within seconds, Baiano was again hiking the ball over the top of Freestone's goal from within the 18-yard box.

Bohinen couldn't finish either five minutes later and it was left to Swansea to round off the goal-scoring with a penalty on 86 minutes. Tony Dorigo was judged to have brought down Jason Price in the penalty box and captain Matthew Bound stepped up to score from the spot.

Deep into injury time a cheeky chip from Baiano found Harper in the box, but he couldn't control the ball and his mid-air crack was way over.
