Listers' view #1 - Phil Sumbler

First Half - The Performance we have been crying out for. The passing was good, the moving was good and it was a general party atmosphere.

It would be hard to single out any individual player for a good performance because without exception they were all good, if not brilliant.

Promotion tension was relieved when Thomas fired in the opener after 12 minutes and the Vetch was ecstatic after 24 when Coates volleyed a superb second from the edge of the area.

10 minutes later and it was 3-0 when Watkin crossed the ball and designed it so well that it hit the defender and went into the back of the net.

3-0 was no more than we deserved at the break but it was going to be reasonably obvious that the second half would be a slightly different game.

If anything we tried to go into exhibition football with some of Boyd's touches needing to be seen to be believed.

Price won us a penalty about 10/15 minutes from the end and, despite the calls from the NB for Freestone to take it, Cusack won the pushing battle with Price for the honour and promptly missed!!

It mattered not and when the whistle went thousands streamed onto the pitch (and the more sedate of us walked calmly on!) and celebrated promotion.

The players reappeared in the Directors Box and soaked the few at the front with champagne and Hollins said something in his speech but what I don't know as there was only about 15 people who could have heard him.

Despite some inadequacies this season, we are up and full credit to everyone involved. It was nice to go up with a good performance which added to the party atmosphere.

Great Game - can't wait until next Saturday now!!

Listers' view #2 - Clive Hughes

Well then lads and lasses, we had no doubts at all from day one of the season did we??? ;-).

Again like the game at Mansfield it was cricket weather, with the Vetch at near capacity with a crowd of 10740. The difference between the two games was that the team was up for this one and full of confidence.

From the start they attacked Exeter and never let them settle After all one way traffic our promotion nerves were eased by the goal from Martin Thomas after 12 minutes with a crisp finish from about 10 yds from a cross by Watkin who had managed to keep the ball from going for a goal kick.

The team were chasing everything at this stage. After further attempts by Steve Jones and a couple from Walter Boyd, the second goal came. Again after more concerted pressure from the Swans, Exeter failed to clear and the ball dropped to Coates on the edge of the box, his cannon shot giving the keeper no chance and hitting the roof of the net.

The Vetch erupted, we could see the finish line. Early news of Rotherham 1-0 up didn't matter as the Swans were turning on the style.

Exeter were not having a look in as we totally dominated and the third came from an own goal after 35 mins our 50th league goal of the season. It was nearly 4 when 2 minutes from half time after some head tennis Walter Boyd, yes I repeat Walter Boyd scored with a header but it was disallowed for offside.

In the build up Steve Watkin received a knock to the head and at half-time was replaced by Bird. One chance to Exeter, as Coates hesitated and Smith had to clear at the foot of the post. Exeter used all 3 substitutes and a booking for Steve Jones for a very wild challenge.

The second half was an anti climax with the Swans looking dangerous on the break with Bird & Boyd worrying their defence. As in most games we started to defend deeper giving Exeter more of the play, but as usual the defence held firm with no real threat.

Being 3-0 up and not the usual 1-0 we could afford to do this, saving the energy for next weeks big one. There had been the news of Hartlepool being 2-1 against Rotherham but in fact it was the other way around.

The last five minutes was played with the pitch surrounded by fans ready for the final whistle. It came and the invasion started with the players breaking the land speed record to get off the pitch.

It was party time and the players and management received the applause when they appeared in the Directors box. Well heres to Rotherham next Saturday, hopefully the championship, but who cares, we are up and out of this very poor division. Let's make sure we don't return.

A final note in case it gets lost in the celebrations, 22 clean sheets in the league, a big congratulations to the defence especially Wales' No 1 Big Roger Freestone.

Swansea clinched promotion to the second division with a 3-0 victory over Exeter City at a joyous Vetch Field.

Play-off clouds rolled back as three strikes in 23 pulsating first-half minutes cut down the Grecians and sparked a wild fiesta in the sun.

Almost 11,000 partied as John Hollins' stormtroopers smashed the locks to end a four-year stint in football's dungeon section.

Martin Thomas, Jon Coates and an own goal from Exeter skipper Chris Curran prompted mad celebrations in Swansea's seafront pubs.

Thousands will pile up the M1 next Saturday for a heart-stopping title shoot-out with rivals Rotherham in South Yorkshire.

An overwhelmed Swansea boss Hollins said: "It was fabulous to clinch promotion here in front of such a great crowd. Without doubt this is my finest soccer moment.

"Swansea is geared for second division soccer, now we'll go to Rotherham and enjoy ourselves." Nick Cusack was equally moved. He declared: "The disappointment of missing out in last season's play-offs was the spur for our success.

"John Hollins is the finest boss I've ever worked under. His man-management skills are superb. Without doubt I'm a proud man. This is a wonderful moment." Swansea were boosted before kick-off as ex-Under-21 Welsh international Jason Price came through a vigorous late fitness test and the Swans were unchanged from the side which won at Mansfield on Easter Monday.

The Vetch, splashed in radiant sunshine, saw fans streaming through the turnstiles an hour before the start and there was a carnival atmosphere willing Hollins' army on from the early moments.

And after 12 minutes white-shirted Swansea were in seventh heaven as they edged ahead.

The busy Cusack unlocked the Grecians' left side, Steve Watkin squared back and Thomas drilled home from 10 yards.

It was relentless stuff and the party was in full swing as Coates added a breathtaking second after 24 minutes.

Walter Boyd had danced past Kofi Nyamah on the left and battered Exeter paid the highest price for defensive frailty as blond-haired Coates juggled before sending a right-foot shot screaming into the net from 30 yards.

By 32 minutes Exeter had brought on all three substitutes - Chris Holloway, Barry McConnell and Darren Rowbotham as they re-thought strategy.

But they were no more than a toothless support act and were caving in again after 35 minutes as their captain Curran netted a calamitous own goal.

Steve Jones had exposed their confused defence with a quick free-kick and Watkin advanced deep into the area before his sharp centre ricocheted home via Curran's knee.

Exeter showed renewed vigour after the interval and John Gittens went close twice from a couple of Holloway corners.

But Swansea were sparking more menace 14 minutes from time and Cusack wasted a glorious opportunity for a fourth after Potter saved his spot-kick.

The kick was awarded by referee Roger Fernandiz of Yorkshire after Jason Price was tripped in the box by the beleaguered Curran.
