Listers' view - Phil Sumbler We should have walked the game tonight......we didn't. I would be almost convinced that if Rotherham had come across a piss poor side like Lincoln then they would have won convincingly. On a plus, Lee Jenkins had a superb game tonight. He put himself around superbly and saved a late Lincoln equaliser by diving in front of the forward. The second half was a strange affair - I don't think anyone knew what to do with a 2-0 lead (including the crowd!) Coates goal was a clear error from their keeper - straight in from the corner at the near post. Lincoln's goal was good (I'm with Gramps on this one) well taken and I don't think gave Roger a chance. Worrying that Smith got injured. Hospital for X-Rays after the game - could be serious. Lets hope its a fortnight at worst. Kevin Evans looked OK but doesnt give you the same confidence as Smith or Bound but this could come with more games. Price played well. Steve Jones was a tower at the back. Martin Thomas was......typical Martin Thomas. Coates played well again - hit a pearlier in the first half from outside the box that was well stayed. Not brilliant but nowhere near some of the bad performances that we have seen. At the end of the night (cliche time) it's 3 points in the bag and pressure on Barnet and Rotherham tomorrow. Cheltenham will provide us with a sterner test next weekend so I would suggest we step up a gear for that game. Still...... WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE AGAIN!!! www.sports.football.com report and Match Centre Stats A couple of blasts in 19 first-half minutes propelled John Hollins' Swans back to the top of division three. Julian Alsop and John Coates gunned down the outcast Imps, but almost 7,000 Vetch fans were holding their breath at the death as Lincoln stormed back. Substitute Lee Thorpe smashed a consolation two minutes from time and trembling Swansea were clinging on for the win. High-flying Swansea made just one change to the side which saw an unbeaten 14-match league run end at Southend last Saturday. Welsh Under-21 international Jason Price came in for rookie Gareth Phillips at right back. The Imps were looking to improve their lowly spot in the table, reliant on Tony Battersby and Gavin Gordon as well as giving a debut to teenager Paul Mayo. The fare was patchy, a rugged surface not conducive for quality soccer, but the Welshmen had Lincoln scurrying for cover in the third minute. Martin Thomas' sharp 12-yard blast was fumbled by Barry Richardson, the ex-Preston man regaining his poise to thwart Price. The Imps flashed a goal warning moments later as a Gordon effort squirmed wide, but John Hollins' men stormed ahead after 17 minutes. Defender Steve Jones raided down the left and Alsop's deft flick looped over Richardson, despite the frantic efforts of Anthony Henry. A flurry of Lincoln corners yielded nothing, and after 26 minutes Imps keeper Richardson was pouching a Nick Cusack snap-shot. Swansea were bristling with determination again 60 seconds later. Steve Watkin's lay-off found Coates, but the left-back's 20-yard missile was beaten to safety by Richardson. Former Hull marksman Gordon miscued again on the half hour, and after 37 minutes Lincoln paid the maximum penalty as the Swans bagged a freakish second. The towering Alsop threw red-faced Richardson a perfect near-post dummy and the anguished keeper looked on as Coates' in-swinging corner curled into the net. The Swans were dealt a blow five minutes before the break as star-stopper Jason Smith limped off after an aerial challenge. The ex-Coventry trainee was replaced in central defence by Leeds youngster Kevin Evans at half time. But the disruption failed to stem Swansea's ascendancy and after 58 minutes, Richardson dropped another howler. The big keeper completely muffed a simple clearance, but Price's 18-yard chip floated past the relieved player's far-post. Outplayed Lincoln were rocked again seven minutes later. Lee Jenkins drew Steve Welsh on the left before firing in an angled drive which saw Richardson scrambling. Around 200 travelling Imps fans rounded on their struggling side from the West Terrace as frustrations bubbled over. But their jeers stuck in their throats as substitute Lee Thorpe blasted a consolation the Imps scarcely deserved after 88 minutes. The midfielder's low right-foot drive whistled past Roger Freestone from an acute angle. It signalled some late Lincoln pressure and Swansea were holding on grimly at the whistle to secure the points.
