Well I'm sure quite a few of you have either bought computers for yourselves or for your children this Christmas. If that's the case, then all you need to get connected to the Swans on the Internet is a modem and telephone socket.
Modems almost come as standard equipment these days, but if you do need to get one, look for ones that contain the numbers 56K, or at the very least 33.6K. You can buy these brand new for around £80 or less.
The next step is to sign up with an ISP or Internet Service Provider. There is quite a selection to choose from, all at a cost of around £10 per month. After that, it's just your telephone connection that you pay for (local rate). I would advise you to purchase one of the many Internet magazines available at leading newsagents for advice on which ISP to plump for. These magazines frequently do comparisons on the performance of each.
The Internet address for my site on the Swans has changed to http://www2.prestel.co.uk/gmartin The reason for this is that I have outgrown the 10Mb web space that I was allowed with the old ISP. The size of the site is currently 25Mb and growing!
Two other sites on the Swans well worth taking a look at are Mouthful of Lead which can be found at http://www.btinternet.com/~antony.s.thomas/MOLIndex.html and Mike Davies' web site at http://www.btinternet.com/~mdnet/scfc/ Both are entirely different from mine and from each other.
Once connected to any of these sites, there are links to the Swans mailing list and lots of other football web sites.
It might surprise one or two of you to know that not only does Neil McClure himself dabble on the net, but so do a number of professional footballers. As yet, apart from Steve Jones, no Swansea players have admitted to being Swanoraks. (An "anorak" being a name given to someone whose main interest is computers).
Enough computerspeak from me. A happy New Year to all Swansea supporters at home and abroad. Blwyddyn newydd dda.
