Swans and the Internet

I have been invited to contribute a regular column in the Matchday Magazine to keep the supporters up to date with the Swans on the Internet.

The article that appeared in the Hartlepool United programme on Tuesday 4/11/97 is reproduced here.

The dismissal of Jan Molby and Billy Ayre, although a big surprise, had been flagged by some members of the Internet mailing list - a case of Mystic Mog perhaps?

However, it wasn't Micky Adams that was predicted take over but - Barry Venison! So I think I'm going to stick with random selection for my lottery numbers for the immediate future.

The Internet has long been a major source of rumour, and conspiracy theories abound. These have increased to fever pitch on the Swansea list now that Micky Adams has gone too.

There was an air of optimism on the list regarding the astute appointment of Adams and Alan Cork, and several e-mails were received from Fulham supporters. Here is what one of them had to say.

From Roger Eales:
"If you forgive a Fulham fan dropping by, I thought you might be encouraged to know that you have got yourselves an excellent new manager.

Never mind that you are languishing in 20th in the 3rd. When Micky took over at Fulham, we had only Torquay below us, and things were dire. Almost immediately he stabilised the team, and a year later after spending very little money, he was toasting promotion. There's no doubt that he's one of the brightest young managers around, very hard-working with a good eye for cheap or free players in other reserve teams and he certainly had a great relationship with our fans.

So, you should be optimistic. Give him a cheer for us. Quite a few in SW London will be checking the Swans results from now on."

Of course, things have moved on since then, and it now remains to be seen what kind of job Alan Cork will do in the Vetch hot seat. All on the list wish him well - and judging by recent events, he has a difficult task on his hands.

In the next edition of the Swan next Saturday we wil1 feature the next in our "Jack Outpost" feature when we will hear from John Campbell of Sydney, who gives his down-under view of the Swans.
