Swans and the Internet

I have been invited to contribute a regular column in the Matchday Magazine to keep the supporters up to date with the Swans on the Internet.

The article that appeared in the Rotherham United programme on Tuesday 2/12/97 is reproduced here.

Swans on the net

Well the results of late have caused as little joy in cyberspace as they have in Swansea itself.

Recent topics on the mailing list have centred on the new owners inability to deliver on the early season promises they made. "Premiership football in 5 years" will currently get you odds that would rival a lottery win.

Alan Cork has had a short time in charge and it is perhaps too much to expect a repeat of last season's upturn in fortunes - just yet! But a message to the 2 Alan's - we haven't given up hope.

It hasn't been all doom and gloom however. We have all enjoyed contacting the Cardiff list after our smash and grab raid for the three points at Ninian Park. Not unsurprisingly, they did not take this too well - claiming we were lucky on the day. Those with longer memories than the average bluebird, will remember their undeserved win here last season - what goes around comes around.

For those of you with email access, apart from joining the Swans mailing list - swansea@isfa.com , there is also a new Wales mailing list and the email address is cymru@isfa.com

Jack outpost

Gary Woodfine of South Africa writes:
After my grandad took me to watch the swans play at the vetch in 1977 I have supported SCFC ever since. After leaving Wales in 1978 I had no means of finding out any information about my beloved club. I have been reduced to the odd piece in the SHOOT, MATCH magazines and the odd write up in British papers that we seldomly received. My passion for the SWANS grew and grew watching with interest for the weekly results and never knowing the happenings at the Vetch.

Swansea City not being one of the glamour sides of the day, there wasn't even a fan club I could join too receive information about the club.

Now due to the Swansea web sites and Swansea mailing list I am kept up to date goal by goal. I cannot imagine Jack life now without the Internet. I now look forward to March when I return home to cure my "hiraeth" and share a pint in the Builders with the rest of the listee's.
