Swans on the net

In these notes last April, I wrote that my Internet site had recorded 50,000 visitors since its inception in January 1996. Last month, the 75,000 mark was reached - such is the interest in news of the Swans.

However, this popularity is not just down to facts, match reports and video clips alone. There is a "fun section" where you can download Swans screensavers (for free).

In addition, there is a "tongue in cheek" look at the personalities involved backstage at the Vetch in a cartoon strip called the "Swansons." As my artistic skills are on a par with a Bluebird reserve player's ball skills, these characters look remarkably like the "Simpsons" cartoons .

One interactive featured that I recently introduced has proved to be really popular – the Predicatsco competition.

Currently there are 113 taking part. Points are awarded for predicting the correct result and score of our matches. Neil McClure, himself a big fan of the Internet, has kindly agreed to donate a replica Swans top to be used as the first prize at the end of the season.

The early leaderboard looks like this:-

James Walford 23
Andy Birt 20
Geraint Thomas 18
Adrian Cuthill 17
Alan Phillips (OZ)	17
Andrew Gwynn 17
Chris Rees 17
Dean Franklin 17
Greg Ace 17
Mike Nicholson 17

Another Swans cyber-fan, Philip Sumbler, has set up a Fantasy League on his Swans site. This too, has proved very successful.

Early leaderboard in this competition looks like this:-

Manager Team Pts.
1 Rebecca Carter Charlie Tubby FC 34
2 Clive Martin Morfa Maybees 30
3 Richard Williams Trevor Bond Is Gay 29
4 Steve Johnston Wollongong Villa 29
5 Paul Taylor Spank The Monkey 27
5 Janet Morgan Morgan's Marvels 27

It is not too late to enter either of the above competitions. Phil's Fantasy League site can be found at http://members.aol.com/psumbler/index.html
