Matchday Programme Internet Article

Peterborough - 7th November 1998

Swans on the net

There was excellent travelling support up at Chester last Saturday and a sizeable number from our mailing list were there. I met up with listees from London, Peterborough, Rhuddlan, Manchester and the West Midlands – it's great to put faces to email addresses.

Another of our Internet regulars, Keith Haynes of the MAGS, has a book coming out at the end of the month entitled "Come On Cymru." It is covers quite a broad spectrum of football in Wales from the national team downwards. My internet site has been running a competition with a copy of this book as the prize.

All the competitors had to do, was to predict the attendance at today's match. Entries to date range from 3064 to 7150, with one misguided soul opting for 11,631 which is 1,231 above our permitted maximum! (That'll teach him not to check the Facts & Figures page on the site).

Some of you may have fancied travelling up for the Shrewsbury game last Tuesday but thought it too far for an evening kick off. If that was the case, spare a thought for Brian Price, who wrote for this section of the programme in the last edition.

Brian travelled down from Edinburgh! Now that's what I call dedication. Surely the club should be recognising these supporters in some way – even if it's just a specially commissioned lapel badge.

So what about it Mike Lewis?

Whilst on the topic of travelling Internet fans, can I record special congratulations to Peter and Bethan from Peterborough who are at their first home match today as husband and wife. Perhaps the p.a. announcer reads this programme and would like to congratulate them publicly?

And now a bit for the computer nerds amongst us :-)

I get a lot of mail asking how to get onto the mailing list. As some of you reading this will be students with Internet access for the first time, here's what you do:-

Send an email to listserver@isfa.com with no heading. Just write "join swansea" as the message but leave out the quotes. Do not add your name at the bottom, just send it as it is. You should get a message back almost immediately welcoming you to the list.

Links to all Official and Unofficial sites are available at my Swansea Internet Web site. The address is http://www2.prestel.co.uk/gmartin or use the easy-to-remember version http://come.to/swanseacity
