| Dear John |
Each Monday morning, I will print out the week's comments and snailmail them to him at the Vetch. Any replies that I receive from him will be posted here.
Dear John Like all true jacks I was very happy that a man of your proven playing and coaching ability was appointed as Swansea manager. It has however not been the ideal start for the team, but I do not put that blame at your feet, as you have to put up with what was left to you from Corky. However, you must insist that new players are brought in if you are to do anything half decent this season. All the best John and I do Hope you have a good season but that will only happen when you find a player who can put the ball in the back of the net. Cheers location: Swansea Name: David Darlington date: 5.9.98
Dear John It's about time that you levelled with us poor sods who have to witness this crock of garbage. Are you going to insist that funds are made available for some quality players? So far all you've spoken about is the size of a squad & how you're going to "tinker" with it until you get it right. Excuse me but even the most remedial can see that this is the language of the Sunday League. Your appointment was treated with good faith, but if you've come down here at the behest of your good friend Hamer to continue to subdue us with flannel such as "be patient" then you're in for a big shock. Even at this stage of the season, fans who've had to put up with the fact that Silver Shield threw away the promise created by Jan Molby are already questioning your methods. Not once have you stated any intention to look at any new players. not once have you mentioned scouting. Not once have you given us any indication of how you intend improving the dire quality on view week in week out. Finally, please can you confirm or deny that you are being paid £5,000 per week. the fans have a right to know. Stand up for us for once. Raise the pressure, Mouthful of Lead, Port Talbot, 2/9/98
Dear John It looks as if its going to be another disappointing season with a possible relagation fight. Other crap sides from last year like Hull, Mansfield and Brighton seem to be coping quite well. They have all made a few signings unlike yourself. What was that idiot Hamer playing at when he allowed Cork to sign Smith and Thomas in the summer and has not let you sign any players. A squad of 29 is clearly too large at this level and needs to be trimmed down. How about getting rid of Alsop, Hartfield and Walker for a start. Bring back Steve Jones instead of Price and use Coates as an attacking full back in a five man midfield position. Act now Hollins, use your experience or those two faced w*****s will have you booted even though they know sod all about football. Regards Matt Hull P.S Why didn't we sign David D'auria who wanted to come back to Swansea!!!! Matthew Stephens, Hull, 2 sept 98
Dear John After two poor home games i.e Leyton Orient and scunthorpe it is evident that no matter how much training and hard work is done we are lacking in experience and quality. It appears that Richy Appleby is the only one doing the thinking? You can see it in the team that they want to do well under you unlike past regins but, i feel the team now is just like it was when molby got the push. We need good quality talent not 29 average players. A step in the right direction in getting rid of Hartfield and Newhouse, please can we have a midfielder and striker of good quality to lead the attack on the division. ? ? ? jason, swansea, 1.9.98
Dear John After five league games, it is obvious that we are not good enough to make an impression on the third Division. We are naive in defence, poor and lacking control in Midfield, and we are seriously lacking a goal scorer. We would like to know if you are planning to get rid of any players, and bring in some more quality, or are your hands tied financially ?? Laura + Norman, Neath, 31 Angust 1998
Dear John I would like to wish you good luck and hope you can take us to Division 2. However I am worried about our scoring ability. The Watkin\Alsop partnership is clearly our weakest part of the team. I think you need to offload them and bring in some new faces. Alsop is good in the air but is very clumsy when the ball is on the ground. I don' think Steve Watkin has fulfilled his potential since he joined us. I am glad to see Tony Bird back in the fold and scoring. Aidan Newhouse, in my opinion doesn't get stuck in enough for a big lad and doesn't give 100%. The rest of the team have done very well in my view. Richy Appleby had a good game against Leyton Orient and I am very impressed with Stuart Roberts after seeing him breifly in the Norwich and Orient games. Jason Price is another player I think will be catching the eye of higher division clubs, along with Jonathon Coates. I hope you do your best to hold onto them Keep up the good work. Dear John Just to point out to you John that one Steve Jones is now fit and raring to play first team football for the club.He as you are aware is one of the best players at Swansea City as he proved before his injury, will he be ignored even when we travel to Brighton without Price who will be with the under 21's? Steve Jones deserves the chance to play for Swansea City,it has been a long hard road back to fitness, being on the bench is not the place for him. Give him a chance. This is the feeling of the majority of the 300 members of our supporters club. Give Jonesy a white shirt,he deserves it. The Midlands Avon & Gloucester Swans, HQ GLOUCESTER, 26/8/98
