Ashley Williams

Profile provided by Wikipedia

Ashley Williams (born August 23, 1984 in Tamworth, Staffordshire) is an English born football player. Williams qualifies to play for the Welsh National Team as his grandfather was born in Wales.

He began his career at West Bromwich Albion as a youth player, but was released by the club at 16 and went on to join Hednesford Town. He impressed enough in his time at the club that he eventually joined Stockport County, who prevailed over competition from Oldham Athletic in the summer of 2003. He plays mainly as a central defender, and can also play right-back.

In January 2007, Stockport turned down a £500,000 bid for Williams from Luton Town and an undisclosed bid from Cardiff City as Stockport are believed to be holding out for offers of £1m.

On November 12th 2007, Ashley won the Inaugural North-West League Two Player of the Year Award.
