![]() Notes from Gods waiting room ......... Originally from Port Talbot, Lee Waters is 24 years old and is an exiled Swan living in God's waiting room, Bournemouth. He has been following the Swans since 1992, a season ticket holder right up until moving to go to the University of Plymouth. Although not as experienced as some contributors to the site he has seen the Swans go to Wembley (twice), St James' Park (Newcastle) and St James Park (Exeter), plus many others. Enjoys taking a sideways look at life and football.
Saturday 2nd November 2002Re: The Kidderminster Harriers shambles and the season so far. What can I say? Can I say that I am disappointed? Yes. Can I say that I could do better? Yes, I can say it, but I as many of us would've done even worse than the boys in white, I am not a very good football player, but I am a fan. I would play my heart out for Swansea City and if I was being paid more than the average Swansea resident I would be trying my hardest to ensure that I kept my job. It is a black time for football, the pool of players available is getting more and more flooded by the day. Most of the Swansea City Players are on a One year contract and if they carry on it will not be renewed, whether Swansea are in the English league or not!! I can guarantee to you that if you knew that your job was on the line you would be working as hard as possible. We have all played some form of management game, whether it is on a computer or Fantasy Football. I have managed to get the Swans from the third division to the first in five seasons, so is it that easy? Of course not, but we can all learn a lot from these type of games. We can learn that it doesn't matter how good a player is on paper it all depends on his performance on the day, is he getting trained properly, is he happy at the club? I doubt that there are many people within the vetch who are happy, who wake up every morning with a smile on their face, surely the whole atmosphere is not very good at the moment. It is down to the senior management of the club to pick everyone else up, but who is the Senior Manager at the Club? The Board, I don't think so! Flynn? How can he be he has only been associated with the club for five minutes! So what is the solution? I think that we need a Chairman, no shock there. I think that we need an influential businessman with a passion for the club, in just 9 years we have fallen from the top to the bottom, during which time we have seen people take over the club all claiming that they love the club etc etc. But we need someone who is not interested in making business for their construction company eg Mr Sharpe and the Silver Shield fiasco. The sooner the new Morfa stadium is built, the better. It will stop the leaches from getting bloated on a large building project, and hopefully someone who is genuinely interested in the club! It will be very hard to attract investment at the moment, we are not the most successful team at the moment (understatement of the century). It is hard for us to get behind players who seem to have no passion for the club. I think it was right for Kris O'Leary to speak publicly after the performance, but I was incensed to hear that he was defending his team mates after such a debacle. As club captain it is his job to defend the club, not make us feel sorry for him and his mates. He is a main culprit of underperforming at the club. Kris has shown excellent potential, and he could be a great captain of the club, but not right now. O'Leary plays alongside someone who seems to be the natural choice as leader, Smudger is a more experienced player who is intimidating and performing fairly well at the moment. It is still early doors to judge Flynn's performance as manager, I hope he can turn things around as he did at Wrexham. He has now represented all of the main Welsh clubs at some level, it would be very interesting to find out which club he supported as a child! The only player I can definitely has a heart for Swansea City is Kris, as I know him from school. He has always had a passion for the club, and is understandably as upset as the rest of us. It was mentioned the other day on the mailing list that when he first came to the club Steve Watkin was our top scorer for three seasons, so what!! Ever since I have been a member of the Jack Army we have always said that we need a 20+ striker and I don't think he has exceeded that target, prove me wrong if you want but I don't care. Thomas looks like he will break that target, and probably leave at the end of the season! What has happened to our once thriving youth policy, we don't seem to have any quality coming through Lacey doesn't seem to be impressing and Lee Jenkins is playing out of position. I would say that about 8 of our first team players wouldn't have had a look in three years ago. Strength in depth is not something we have at the club. Hopefully Flynn will bring quality to the club, at all levels. All I wish for at the moment is consolidation I will be happy if we finish third from bottom as long as Flynn is in the Third division next season and we can build from there, he will have a blank canvas to work his magic on. Sorry that this article is somewhat disjointed and written on the negative side of the fence, but I just needed to rant. It is so hard to see the club go to ruin from such a distance, I hope to be at the Vetch in the near future to see things for myself. Thanks Who are we??? Lee
