Aged 20. Formally with Carmarthen Town, Port Tenant Stars in the Swansea Senior League and Goytre in the Welsh League. Joined Carmarthen Town from Welsh League Pontardawe in March 2002 and scored 11 goals in nine games for the League of Wales club.

He was then invited to play in a trial match by Cusack who offered him a one-year contract. Cusack has said of Keaveny "Jonathan is an exciting prospect. Yes, he's young and raw, but he's pacy. He's got a good eye for goal and he's not afraid to try things.''
