Roberto Martinez
2005/2006
Has recently taken up the option of another 12 months with the Swans based on the number of appearances made throughout the season. He hasn't looked the player who arrived a couple of seasons ago, but is still a class act when he's in the right frame of mind. To be fair to Roberto, he is also asked to play a much more defensive role by Jackett, which seems to impact on his displays of flair.
Despite being dropped by Jackett at the start of the season, Kenny responded to criticism from fans, and this was rewarded by a good run in form when Roberto returned. He has been named captain for the forthcoming campaign and it is hoped by many that the additional space in League 1 will benefit his style of play.
Many female fans heart throb, but more worryingly one or two of the blokes as well!
2004/2005
Signed a deal with the club for a couple of seasons last summer following an extended loan spell from Walsall. An obvious leader on the field, with his passing, tackling and general awareness.
Unfortunately spent much of last season injured as a result of being targeted by Boston United's over physical 'midfield'. A great loss to the Swans at the time as he was possibly our most influential player. Struggled to regain his previous season's form when he came back, but it is hoped that he will be back to his best following the summer break.
2003/2004
Roberto joined the Swans from Walsall on a free transfer early in 2003, following suspension, and then a spell out of the first team. He seems to be the answer to the Swans long standing lack of a combative, creative midfielder. A great footballing brain, with 2 cultured feet. Has also created a great rapport with Swans fans.
Has now signed a 2 year deal, which will see him remain at the Vetch until at least 2005, despite a lot of uncertainty during the contract negotiaitions. He is the man that presumably Brian Flynn will model his midfield. Great crosser of the ball, as well as a tremendous shot. Has chipped in with some vitally important goals as well.
Originally came to the football league to Wigan Athletic, before moving North of the border to Motherwell. After they suffered financial problems, he joined Walsall, but failed to be a regular fixture in the first team.
