Where are they now?

Christian Edwards

Currently with Nottm Forest. Consistency the key for Christian Life simply could not be sweeter for 'comeback man' Christian Edwards at the moment - either on or off the pitch! The Welshman has happily traded life in The City Ground wilderness for a starring role in our promotion push and now appears to be firmly cemented in David Platt's defensive plans. And away from the world of football and the pursuit of precious League points, he's busy making preparations for another big occasion - his wedding to TV weather girl Julie Reinger. Julie, who now works for the BBC in Norwich after a successful spell on 'East Midlands Today', and Christian plan to tie the knot next summer - by which time the 24 year old hopes to have secured his future with us.

Edwards's current contract expires next summer and the timing of his return to the spotlight could not have been better. "I'm playing for a new contract," he says "but I'm really enjoying myself at the moment and that's the main thing. "It's no secret that, not so long ago, I thought I had no future whatsoever at Forest. I was resigned to moving on. I thought that was the only way I would get my career up and running again. Now I couldn't be happier." The City Ground future looked far from rosy for the former Swansea man last season as he failed to make a single first team appearance for us.

A move to Bristol City, as part of the £1million-plus deal that brought Canadian international Jim Brennan to The City Ground, fell through and Edwards admits: "Last season was nothing short of a disaster for me. "I had a knee problem and was forced to undergo a couple of operations. Then, when I got myself fit, I found myself firmly out of favour at Forest and went on loan to Oxford. "I didn't have a very good time there and returned to Forest not really knowing what the future had in store for me. I was in limbo and honestly thought I would have to move on. "I don't mind admitting there were times when I didn't exactly do myself justice in reserve games - my head was a bit messed up. "But I worked hard in training during the summer with reserve coach Jimmy Gilligan and fortunately turned in some good performances at reserve level during the early stages of the season. "And when one or two of the lads ahead of me picked up injuries, I was fortunate enough to get the chance to return to the side."

Edwards looked like he had never been away as he turned-in an excellent display on his return to the starting line-up in our 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday last month and has hardly faltered since. "I'm probably not playing as well as I did when I first got back in the team," he reveals. "But I would like to think my performances have levelled out and I've managed to achieve a degree of consistency. "This is by far the longest run I've had in the first team at Forest and it's what I've been striving for ever since I joined the club from Swansea."

Edwards, who has been capped once by his country at full international level, may be at the forefront of Platt's thinking at the moment but he's only too aware of the fickle nature of football and as such, he's refusing to take anything for granted. "I'm only too aware of how quickly things can turn either for or against you in football so it would be stupid of me to sit back and relax now. "I'm happy with the way things are progressing but I'm determined not to let complacency creep into my performances. I've waited a long time for an opportunity like this and I'm not about to waste it."

Who do you most admire and why? Frank Burrows and Jan Molby - they both showed a great deal of faith in me and gave me a chance when I was with Swansea. What's the most embarrassing situation you've found yourself in? Funnily enough, it happened the day before our trip to Barnsley earlier this month when we were working on set-pieces on the training ground. I went for a header, tried to put the breaks on and ended up heading a 50ft metal post behind the goal. Fortunately, I didn't hurt myself but I felt a right idiot. What would you like to do once you've retired as a player? I'd like to stay in football in some capacity or other. What's your favourite past time? Playing golf. I started playing about three years ago and currently have a handicap of 18. What three things would you want with you on a desert island? My family, a McDonalds meal for every day of the week and my 'Stereophonics' albums. Have you got any phobias? I hate snakes - I can't even look at them on TV. Have you got any pets? Two goldfish. Would you ever consider plastic surgery? If so where? I wouldn't ... but the rest of the lads would I'm sure suggest I have my nose sorted out. What would be your worst nightmare? Being in the near vicinity of a snake. What do you like to do on your day off? Play golf or visit my girlfriend Julie in Norwich. What's your favourite holiday destination and why? Barbados because it's so relaxing. What's your favourite meal? Spaghetti Bolognaise. What aftershave do you wear? Hugo Boss.
